UN-REDD at UNFCCC COP31

At COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye, UN-REDD will spotlight forest-based climate solutions, jurisdictional REDD+ and high-integrity forest finance, highlighting how countries can translate climate commitments into verified results, increased investment and action to halt and reverse deforestation.

Working with partner countries, UN-REDD will lead and contribute to key events, discussions and knowledge exchanges, advancing the global forest agenda from COP31 towards COP32.

Key messages

- Forests can't wait. Forests are essential to limiting global warming and addressing the climate crisis. Every year of inaction makes the challenge harder. We have solutions, and we must scale them up now.

- Jurisdictional REDD+ works. Countries are moving from proof of concept to proof of implementation, delivering measurable forest and climate results. The priority is to build on this progress and scale up successful approaches.

- From results to payments. Forest countries are delivering results, but these must translate into verified credits, payments and reinvestment more quickly and predictably. Reducing transaction costs and streamlining requirements are critical to closing the last mile.

- More finance for forests. Public, private and innovative financing mechanisms all have a role to play. REDD+ offers an established pathway for financing measurable forest outcomes. Greater investment is needed to reward countries for protecting forests.

- Rights at the centre. Recognizing land tenure, respecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities, strengthening governance and ensuring equitable benefit-sharing are fundamental to lasting forest protection.

- Stronger collaboration, greater impact. Closing the gap between forest results and payments requires countries, donors, buyers, investors, standards bodies and civil society to work together. Collective action is essential to turn commitments into finance and lasting results.

We also invite you to join #ForestsCantWait, a collective campaign bringing partners together to build urgency around forest action, showcase proven solutions and accelerate results-based forest finance – from COP31 to COP32 and beyond.

The message is clear: the foundations are in place, results are being delivered, and now it is time to close the last mile.
