About the programme
The UN-REDD Programme is the flagship UN knowledge and advisory partnership on forests and climate. We work to reduce forest emissions and enhance forest carbon stocks.
-
Our goal is to support countries to realize forest solutions to the climate emergency by reducing carbon emissions and fostering carbon sequestration for at least 5 GtCO2e per year.
-
To achieve this goal, we support countries to mobilize finance and advance the implementation of REDD+ and the Paris Agreement, focusing on Articles 4, 5 and 6.
-
Our advocacy for forest-based solutions targets carbon sequestration and champions non-carbon benefits. These include biodiversity conservation, enhancement of local livelihoods, advancement of gender equality, and the promotion of Indigenous Peoples’ (IP) rights.
-
Our work is deeply rooted in finding local solutions and prioritizes the rights and involvement of Indigenous Peoples, ensuring transparency and participation, in alignment with principles of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC), and UNFCCC safeguards.
-
Our network spans over 65 partner countries, leveraging more than 15 years of experience and the combined knowledge and expertise of FAO, UNDP, and UNEP.
