Dr. Abebe is trained as a forester and forest ecologist with key technical knowledge and experiences in the area of forestry, forest ecology, silviculture, soil science, agroforestry, climatology, MRV/forest resource monitoring, statistics, forest biometrics, climate change and REDD+.

Pierre Yves Guedez is based in Panama since 2010. He leads the regional UNDP-REDD+ team for Latin America, which supports 12 countries in the region through the REDD+ readiness process. Recently, Pierre led the elaboration of the first REDD proposal (phase 2) approved by the Green Climate Fund, for Ecuador, and is presently supporting Ecuador and Brazil to access REDD RBP from the GCF. Prior to this, Pierre worked as a consultant on environment related issues in several Latin America countries (2008-2009), as program Officer in UNDP Burkina Faso (2003-2007) and previously on environmental issues with international agrobusiness companies.

Jefferson Hall is a Staff Scientist at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) and the Director of the Agua Salud Project. His research focuses on understanding the flow of goods and services provided by tropical forests and how they change with land use and climate change. He collaborates with multidisciplinary teams of foresters, ecologists, hydrologists, economists, social scientists as well as educators. Elsie Attafuah has over twenty years of experience in programme development, management and implementation, organizational and strategic management, partnerships brokering, resource mobilization, external relations and diplomacy, applied research and policy analysis, and gender and civil society issues. She has worked nationally and internationally in key sectors such as environment and climate change, agriculture, rural development, education, health and social welfare. She is a skilled programme manager who has led multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams in Africa, Europe and America. With proven diplomatic, negotiation, leadership, networking, interpersonal and communication skills, Elsie has liaised with Governments, bilateral and multilateral organizations, civil society, private sector and research institutions at the highest levels across many countries.

Robert Simpson is the Manager of the FAO-EU FLEGT Programme. Before joining FAO’s Forestry Department in 2009, Simpson worked for the United States Embassy in Antananarivo, Madagascar, and later for a conservation and forest management NGO in the country, working primarily with the Malagasy government to improve forest management strategies and law enforcement in several of its regional offices. Simpson has also worked for the United States Forest Service as the Liberia Forest Initiative Program Coordinator to support the Liberian Government forest sector reform process following the UN Security

Marieke Sandker, holds a Ph.D. in Forest Ecology/Landscape Modelling. She joined FAO in 2010, working for FRA2015, joining the UN-REDD team in 2013. She is currently coordinating FAO’s support on Forest Reference Levels (FRLs), GHG inventory and REDD+ results reporting. In this role, she assists countries to develop FRLs for REDD+ under the UNFCCC and other initiatives. Prior to joining FAO, she worked as International Consultant for CIFOR contributing to IUCN’s Livelihoods and Landscapes Initiative. From 2005-2008, she was based in Yaoundé, Cameroon working as Associate Professional Officer for CIFOR, and 2002-2004, she was based in El Salvador working for Utrecht University and the Salvadorian Ministry of Agriculture for an EU-funded reforestation project.

Till has been working on the nexus of forests and climate change since the early days of the Kyoto Protocol. He’s originated carbon credits, managed grant portfolios, and provide a.dvisory services. For the FAO, Till supports countries in their REDD+ capacity development efforts, especially with a view on international reporting and forest monitoring.
