A recognized, qualified and independent professional who evaluates which of the individual CCB Standards criteria are satisfied by the project in question. Based on this determination, the project may earn CCB Standards approval or, in exceptional cases, achieve Gold Level status. Given that investments in carbon offset projects are likely to take place before projects are initiated, it is important that ex ante (i.e., "beforehand") validation assessments are performed, such as through the use of the CCB Standards.
