Webinar series "Strengthening governance systems in support of forest carbon markets in Latin America and the Caribbean"
FAO, the UN-REDD Programme and PLACA are organizing a regional webinar series on REDD+, carbon markets and forest-climate finance in Latin America and the Caribbean.
As countries advance their climate commitments and explore opportunities linked to forest carbon markets, strong governance systems are essential. Clear legal frameworks, sound governance structures, transparent registry systems, benefit-sharing arrangements, participatory decision-making and the respect of socio-environmental safeguards can help ensure that forest carbon finance supports climate action while also benefiting people, forests and biodiversity.
This three-part webinar series will bring together government representatives, technical experts, Indigenous Peoples’ organizations, cooperation partners, civil society, academia and private sector actors to exchange experiences and discuss practical approaches to strengthening the governance architecture for forest carbon markets in the region.
The series will provide a space to explore key issues related to emission reductions rights and benefit-sharing, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and transfer of Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs), participatory governance, respect of IPs and community’s rights, access to finance and sustainable forest management.
