Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS)

Definition

The Climate Group, the International Emissions Trading Association, the World Economic Forum and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development developed the Voluntary Carbon Standard to provide a robust, global standard and program for approval of credible voluntary offsets. http://www.v-c-s.org

The VCS Standard lays out the fundamental principles and requirements for quantifying and generating GHG emission reductions and credits that are real, measurable, additional, permanent, conservatively estimated, independently verified, uniquely numbered and transparently listed in a central database.
