UNEP FI to Release Report on Forest Carbon Finance
The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), with support from the UN-REDD Programme, will launch a new report on 6 May in London, UK, entitled "REDDy – Set – Grow: Opportunities, Risks and Roles for Financial Institutions in Forest-carbon Markets".
The report produced by UNEP FI, assesses the current estimates for required investment in REDD+, which point to the need for greater private sector involvement, and contends that if the international community does nothing to reduce deforestation, the global economic cost of climate change caused by deforestation alone could reach $1 trillion/year by 2100. The launch on the report on 6 May will bring together leaders from private finance institutions, senior policy makers from forest-rich countries and representatives of various REDD+ initiatives. To participate in the launch event of this report, send your name, company and contact details to jenny.lopez@unep.org.
