Implementing measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) systems for REDD+ will be the focus of a three-day workshop in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The UN-REDD programme along with the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and the Mexican Forestry Commission (Comisión Nacional Forestal – CONAFOR) are organizing a workshop entitled “Measurement, reporting and verification, a roadmap for implementation at the country level” from 22 to 24 June 2010.

Over 70 participants will gather in Guadalajara, Mexico to discuss the current framework for MRV and review the needs of countries and their forest institutions to properly monitor forests and establish well-functioning MRV systems.

The workshop will also allow for members of UN-REDD Programme countries to share experiences in implementing MRV systems for REDD+ while identifying current challenges, bottlenecks and data issues. The main goal will be to identify best practices and relevant experiences that could be adapted and replicated by others.
