Launch of the Policy Brief on ‘REDD+ and the 2020 Aichi
Biodiversity Targets: Promoting Synergies in International
Forest Conservation Efforts’

REDD+ and the 2020 Aichi Biodiversity Targets: Promoting Synergies in International Forest Conservation Efforts’ is the UN-REDD Programme’s fifth Policy Brief. It explores how REDD+ actions and the achievement of the Convention on Biological Diversity’s Aichi Biodiversity Targets can complement one another. Action for REDD+ can help to achieve the Aichi Biodiversity Targets, and vice versa, in many but not all cases. The report considers five Aichi Biodiversity Targets and their potential synergies with REDD+ planning and implementation. It concludes with some options that may be useful for REDD+ and NBSAP decision makers to consider to enhance synergies. The Policy Brief is illustrated with examples from the Philippines and Tanzania.
